Cylinder Head Removal
NOTE:
- Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
- To avoid damage, unplug the wiring connectors carefully while holding the connector portion.
- Connect the HDS to the DLC, and monitor the ECT sensor 1. To avoid damaging the cylinder head, wait until the ECT drops below 100 °F (38 °C) before loosening the cylinder head bolts.
- Mark all wiring and hoses to avoid misconnection. Also, be sure that they do not contact other wiring or hoses, or interfere with any other parts.
1. Relieve fuel pressure Service and Repair.
2. Drain the engine coolant Service and Repair.
3. Remove the air cleaner Service and Repair.
4. Remove the drive belt Service and Repair.
5. Remove the intake manifold.
6. Remove the exhaust manifold.
7. Remove the engine wire harness connectors and wire harness clamps from the cylinder head.
- ECT sensor 1 connector
- CMP sensor A (Intake) connector
- CMP sensor B (Exhaust) connector
- EVAP canister purge valve connector
8. Remove the quick-connect fitting cover (A), then disconnect the fuel feed hose (B) Fuel Line/Quick-Connect Fitting Removal.
9. Disconnect the EVAP canister hose (A), the brake booster vacuum hose (B) and the vacuum hose (C).
10. Remove the two bolts (A) securing the EVAP canister purge control valve mounting bracket, then remove the harness clamps (B).
11. Disconnect the upper radiator hose (A), the heater hose (B), and the water bypass hose (C).
12. Remove the cam chain Cam Chain Removal.
13. Remove the rocker arm assembly Rocker Arm Assembly Removal.
14. Remove the cylinder head bolts. To prevent warpage, loosen the bolts in sequence 1/3 turn at a time; repeat the sequence until all bolts are loosened.
15. Remove the cylinder head.
