Knock Control

Knock Control:

Knock control carries over from previous systems providing the same advantages. It allows the ignition advance right up to the knock limit without the need for a safety margin. When the sensors detect engine knock, the timing is retarded to a point where the knocking ceases.

The sensors are monitored as part of the OBD II requirements for emission control. If a malfunction occurs with the sensors, the timing is adjusted to incorporate a safety margin.
