DTC Descriptor
DTC B2991 00
- Passenger Door Ajar Circuit
Diagnostic Fault Information
Circuit/System Description
The body control module (BCM) provides a 12V signal to each of the door ajar switch signal circuit. The door ajar switches are normally open when the door is fully closed. When a door is opened, the door ajar switch contacts close providing a path to ground. The driver information center (DIC) displays ajar icon when the BCM detects that one or more of the doors are open. The instrument panel cluster (IPC) receives a serial data message from the BCM indicating the door ajar status.
Conditions for Running the DTC
The system voltage is 9-16 volts.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
The BCM detects a short to ground in a passenger door ajar circuit for longer than 10 minutes.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
The door ajar indicator is illuminated at all times.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
* The DTC will be current for as long as the fault is present.
* When the fault is no longer present, the DTC will become a history DTC.
* A history DTC will clear after 50 ignition cycles.

Circuit/System Verification
1. Ignition ON.
2. Verify the scan tool Passenger Door Ajar Sw parameter changes between Door Closed and Door Ajar when opening and closing the passenger, left rear and right rear doors.
• If the parameter does not change
Refer to Circuit/System Testing
• If the parameter changes
3. All OK.
Circuit/System Testing
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the passenger door latch, the left rear door latch and right rear door latch. Ignition ON.
2. Verify the scan tool Passenger Door Ajar Sw parameter is Door Closed.
• If not Door Closed
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the K9 Body Control Module.
2. Test for infinite resistance between the signal circuit terminal listed below and ground:
* Passenger door latch - signal circuit terminal 1
* Right rear door latch - signal circuit terminal 1
* Left rear door latch - signal circuit terminal 4
• If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the circuit.
• If infinite resistance, replace the K9 Body Control Module.
• If Door Closed
3. Ignition OFF, connect the harness connector at the passenger door latch. Ignition ON.
4. Verify the scan tool Passenger Door Ajar Sw parameter changes between Door Closed and Door Ajar when opening and closing the passenger door.
• If the parameter does not change
Test or replace the passenger door latch
• If the parameter changes
5. Ignition OFF, connect the harness connector at the left rear door latch. Ignition ON.
6. Verify the scan tool Passenger Door Ajar Sw parameter changes between Door Closed and Door Ajar when opening and closing the left rear door.
• If the parameter does not change
Test or replace the left rear door latch
• If the parameter changes
7. Ignition OFF, connect the harness connector at the right rear door latch. Ignition ON.
8. Verify the scan tool Passenger Door Ajar Sw parameter changes between Door Closed and Door Ajar when opening and closing the right rear door.
• If the parameter does not change
Test or replace the right rear door latch
• If the parameter changes
9. All OK.
Component Testing
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate door latch.
2. With the switch in the open position, test for infinite resistance between the terminals listed below:
* Left rear door latch - signal terminal 4 and ground terminal 6
* Right rear door latch - signal terminal 1 and ground terminal 3
* Passenger door latch - signal terminal 1 and low reference terminal 3
• If not the specified value, replace the door latch assembly.
3. With the switch in the closed position, test for less than 1 ohms between the terminals listed below.
* Left rear door latch - signal terminal 4 and ground terminal 6
* Right rear door latch - signal terminal 1 and ground terminal 3
* Passenger door latch - signal terminal 1 and low reference terminal 3
• If greater than the specified range, replace the door latch.
