GROUP: Body

SUBJECT:
Shoulder Belt/Retractor - Service/Replacement Information & Procedure

MODELS:
1995 (AB) Ram Van/Wagon

NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES BUILT AFTER APR. 3, 1995 (MDH 04-10-XX).

DISCUSSION:

Some recent changes to the left front seat belt now make it necessary to replace the belt any time the air bag is deployed or when the yellow warning label is exposed (See Illustration).

The left front seat belt retractor is equipped with an electronically fired pyrotechnic belt pretensioner. The following cautions must be observed when servicing a vehicle equipped with the pyrotechnic belt pretensioner.

Disconnect the battery negative cable and isolate the cable end from the vehicle before servicing the vehicle.

^ Replace the left front retractor after any collision that results in an airbag deployment, or if the yellow warning label is exposed (See Illustration).

^ The parts on the pyrotechnic belt pretensioner and airbag system are not compatible with parts made for vehicles built before Apr. 10,1995. It is important to verify the part number of the new component with the part being removed from the vehicle.
