Fuel Filter: Service and Repair
Fig. 38 Fuel Filter Location:
The fuel filter is mounted inside the fuel pressure regulator (Fig. 38). The pressure regulator is attached to a bracket located above the fuel cylinders on left side of vehicle.
REMOVAL
1. Purge fuel system. Refer to Fuel System Purging.
2. Raise and support vehicle.
3. Remove fuel cylinder/carrier assembly at left side of vehicle. Refer to Fuel Cylinder Removal/installation.
4. Disconnect fuel inlet high-pressure tube (fitting) at both fuel pressure regulator (Fig. 38) and manual shut-off valve. Clean area around both fittings and tube before removal.
5. Remove tube fitting from fuel pressure regulator. Fitting will be under a small spring pressure.
6. Remove filter retention spring, filter and O-ring (Fig. 38). Do not allow any foreign material to get into fuel pressure regulator opening.
INSTALLATION
1. Clean tube fitting and filter retention spring.
2. Install O-ring, filter and filter spring into fuel pressure regulator.
3. Apply a small amount of thread sealant to pipe threads only of tube fitting. Be extremely careful not to get any of thread sealant into any fuel system opening. Use only an anaerobic thread sealant containing Teflon (TM). Install tube fitting to pressure regulator.
4. Install fuel high-pressure tube to pressure regulator and manual shut-off valve. A Go No-Go gauge tool must be used to check tube fittings after tightening. Refer to Fuel Tubes and Fittings Removal/installation.
5. Install fuel cylinder/carrier assembly. Refer to Fuel Cylinder Removal/installation.
