Fuel Receptacle (CNG): Service and Repair

The fuel fill receptacle is located in the conventional area behind the fuel filler door (Fig. 36).

REMOVAL

WARNING: NATURAL GAS MUST FIRST BE PURGED FROM THE SYSTEM BEFORE FUEL FILL RECEPTACLE REMOVAL.

1. Purge fuel system. Refer to Fuel System Purging.

2. Loosen Allen head set screw at side of manual fuel shut-off valve handle (Fig. 34). Remove red colored handle.

3. Remove fuel cylinder shield by removing 14 bolts (Fig. 35). Twelve of the 14 bolts are Torx headed. Two are hex headed.

4. Remove fuel line support clips (Fig. 33) at frame rail.
5. Clean fittings at each end of one-way check valve and at "T" fitting (Fig. 33) before valve removal.
6. Disconnect fuel fill line (Fig. 33) at end of one-way check valve fitting. To prevent entrance of contaminants, temporarily apply clean tape to opened end of fuel line.
7. Lower vehicle and open fuel filler door. Remove 4 receptacle bracket mounting screws (Fig. 36).
8. Pull receptacle and bracket from body to gain access to rear of receptacle.

9. Disconnect fitting at back of receptacle (Fig. 37).
10. Remove receptacle mounting nut (Fig. 37).
11. Remove receptacle from mounting bracket.

INSTALLATION
1. Working through fuel filler door opening, install receptacle to mounting bracket. Connect receptacle fuel fill line fitting and finger tighten + 1/12 of a turn.
2. Connect fuel fill line to one-way check valve and finger tighten + 1/12 of a turn.
3. Working through fuel filler door opening, install receptacle to mounting bracket. Connect receptacle fuel fill line fitting and finger tighten + 1/12 of a turn.
4. Apply thread lock compound to receptacle mounting nut. Tighten mounting nut to 20 Nm (180 in. lbs.) torque.
5. A Go No-Go gauge inspection tool must be used to check fittings at each end of fuel fill line after finger tightening. Refer to Fuel Tubes and Fittings Removal/installation.
6. Install fuel line support clips (Fig. 33) to frame rail.
7. Install receptacle mounting bracket to body. Tighten 4 mounting screws to 3 Nm (25 in. lbs.) torque.
8. Perform a CNG leak test. Refer to Testing For Gas Leaks.
9. Position cylinder shield and install 14 bolts. Tighten 2 smaller bolts to 11 Nm (100 in. lbs.) torque. Tighten 12 Torx headed bolts to 28 Nm (250 in. lbs.) torque.
10. Remove Mien head set screw at side of shut-off valve handle. Position handle to extension shaft. Apply blue Locktite 242 to Allen set screw and tighten set screw.
