NUMBER: 08-014-03

GROUP: Electrical

DATE: Aug. 15, 2003

SUBJECT:
Powertrain Wiring Harness Bracket Package

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves installing a powertrain wiring harness bracket package.

MODELS:

2001 - 2002 (RG) Chrysler Voyager (International Markets)

2001 - 2002 (RS) Town & Country/Caravan/Voyager

NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a 3.3L or 3.8L engine (sales codes EGA, EGM, or EGH) and a 41TE automatic transmission (sales code DGL).

DISCUSSION:

Whenever working in the area of the powertrain wiring harness located at the transmission oil pan, it is recommended that the bracket package be installed. The bracket package will insure that the powertrain wiring harness maintains its original factory installed position after reassembly.

PARTS REQUIRED:

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

1. Disconnect both battery cables.

2. Remove the battery.

3. Disconnect the vacuum hose at the rear of the battery tray (Fig. 1) and remove the battery tray.

4. Disconnect wiring harness from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

5. Remove the body ground nut located under the battery tray.

6. Remove the coolant recovery bottle mounting bolts (2) and position the bottle out of the way.

7. Remove the wiring harness clip from the transmission dipstick bracket (Fig. 2).

8. Raise the vehicle on a suitable hoist.

9. Remove the wiring harness clip w/strap from the transmission oil pan (Fig. 3).

10. Remove the two most outboard bolts on the front of the transmission oil pan. Fasten the wiring adapter (p/n 05101811AA) to the transmission using the two bolts previously removed (Fig. 3). Torque the bolts to 18.6 Nm (165 in. lbs.). Make sure the bracket is mounted so that the "Top" label is facing up.

11. Before installing the wiring bracket, fasten the two wiring harness clips (p/n 04793468) to the wiring bracket (Fig. 4). The clip for the main bundle near the transmission oil pan is inserted in the hole in the downward facing flange of the bracket. The clip for the bundle near the solenoid pack is inserted in the curved flange over the top of the solenoid pack.

12. Mount the wiring bracket (p/n 04868498AB) to the wiring adapter. The stud in the wiring bracket will go into the hole in the wiring adapter. The anti-rotation tab on the wiring bracket will go into the empty hole on the transmission oil pan where the clip was removed from. Fasten the bracket using the nut (p/n 06101968) provided in the kit. Torque the nut to 8.5 Nm (75 in. lbs.) (Fig. 5).

13. Anchor the wiring harness to the new bracket using the two clips attached to the wiring bracket in step 11. Cut off the excess strap material flush to the lock.

14. Lower the vehicle.

15. Fasten one wiring harness clip w/strap (p/n 04793468) into the transmission dipstick bracket. Anchor the wiring harness to the new clip. Cut off the excess strap material flush to the lock.

16. Install the coolant recovery bottle.

17. Install the body ground nut under the battery tray.

18. Install the PCM connectors.

19. Install the battery tray. Connect the vacuum hose at the rear of the battery tray (Fig. 1).

20. Install the battery.

21. Connect the positive battery cable, then the negative battery cable.
