Auxiliary Water Pump: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

CAUTION:
DO NOT apply excessive pressure on the electric coolant pump tubes when removing the heater hoses. Excessive pressure may damage the tubes, causing an engine coolant leak.

1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
2. Drain the engine cooling system.
3. Remove the air cleaner housing from the right side of the engine compartment.




4. Using spring tension clamp pliers, compress and slide the hose clamps (1) off of the end of each heater hose.
5. Disconnect each heater hose (2) by carefully twisting the hose back and forth on the electric coolant pump tube (3), while gently pulling it off of the tube.




6. Remove the electric coolant pump (1) from the mounting bracket (2) located on the right front frame rail (3).
7. Disconnect the wire harness connector (4) from the electric coolant pump and remove the coolant pump from the engine compartment.

INSTALLATION




1. Position the electric coolant pump (1) into the engine compartment and connect the wire harness connector (4) to the coolant pump.
2. Install the electric coolant pump onto the mounting bracket (2) located on the frame rail (3).




3. Using spring tension clamp pliers, compress and slide the hose clamp (1) away from the end of the heater hoses (2).
4. Install each heater hose by carefully twisting the hose back and forth onto the electric coolant pump tubes (3), while gently pushing it onto the tube.
5. Using spring tension clamp pliers, compress and slide the hose clamps onto the end of the heater hoses.
6. Install the air cleaner housing to the right side of the engine compartment.
7. Refill the engine cooling system.
8. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
