A/C Liquid Line - Installation

INSTALLATION

CAUTION: Be certain to adjust the refrigerant oil level when servicing the A/C refrigerant system Refrigerant Oil Level . Failure to properly adjust the refrigerant oil level will prevent the A/C system from operating as designed and can cause serious A/C compressor damage.

NOTE: When replacing multiple A/C system components, refer to the Refrigerant Oil Capacities chart to determine how much oil should be added to the refrigerant systemRefrigerant Oil Level .

NOTE: Replacement of the refrigerant line O-ring seals and gaskets is required anytime a refrigerant line is disconnected. Failure to replace the rubber O-ring seals and metal gaskets could result in a refrigerant system leak.

NOTE: LHD model with 5.7L engine shown in illustrations. Other models similar.

FRONT

1. Position the front section of the A/C liquid line (5) into the engine compartment.
2. Remove the tape or plugs from the opened refrigerant line fittings and the condenser ports.
3. Lubricate new seals with clean refrigerant oil and install them onto the refrigerant line fittings. Use only the specified seals as they are made of a special material for the R-134a system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.
4. Engage the A/C liquid line to the A/C discharge line (4) and connect the lines to the A/C condenser (1).
5. Install the nut (6) that secures the A/C discharge and liquid lines to the A/C condenser. Tighten the nut to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
6. Install the bolt (2) that secures the A/C liquid line to the upper radiator support. Tighten the bolt securely.
7. Install the grille Grille - Installation.

8. Connect the front section of the A/C liquid line (3) to the rear section of the A/C liquid line (1).
9. Install the nut (2) that secures the two sections of the A/C liquid line together. Tighten the nut to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
10. Install the air cleaner housing, air intake tube and resonator, as equipped.
11. Install the engine trim cover, if equipped.
12. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
13. Evacuate the refrigerant system Refrigerant System Evacuate.
14. Adjust the refrigerant oil level Refrigerant Oil Level.
15. Charge the refrigerant system Refrigerant System Charge.

REAR

NOTE: The rear section of the A/C liquid line is only serviced with the rear section of the A/C suction line.

1. Position the A/C liquid and suction line assembly (1) into the engine compartment.
2. Remove the tape or plugs from the opened refrigerant line fittings and the expansion valve ports.
3. Lubricate new seals with clean refrigerant oil and install them onto the refrigerant line fittings. Use only the specified seals as they are made of a special material for the R-134a system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.
4. Connect the A/C liquid and suction line assembly to the A/C expansion (5).
5. Engage the A/C liquid and suction line assembly to stud (3) located on the left front strut tower.
6. Install the nut (6) that secures the A/C liquid and suction line assembly to the A/C expansion valve. Tighten the nut to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
7. Install the bolt (4) that secures the A/C liquid and suction line assembly to the cowl panel bracket. Tighten the bolt securely.
8. Install the nut (2) that secures the A/C liquid and suction line assembly to the stud located on the strut tower. Tighten the nut securely.

9. Install the upper A/C suction and liquid lines (4 and 10) onto the bracket (3) and install the two retaining nuts (1 and 2). Tighten the nuts securely.
10. Raise and support the vehicle.
11. Lubricate new rubber O-ring seals with clean refrigerant oil and install them onto the refrigerant line fittings. Use only the specified O-rings as they are made of a special material for the R-134a system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.
12. Connect the underbody refrigerant lines (5 and 9) to the upper A/C suction and liquid lines and install the two retaining nuts (6 and 7). Tighten the nuts to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).

13. Lower the vehicle.
14. Install the cowl extension silencer.
15. Install the windshield wiper module and arms Wiper Arm Linkage - Installation.
16. Connect the front section of the A/C liquid line (3) to the rear section of the A/C liquid line (1).
17. Install the nut (2) that secures the two sections of the A/C liquid line together. Tighten the nut to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).

18. Connect the front section of the A/C suction line (3) to the rear section of the A/C suction line (1).
19. Install the nut (2) that secures the two sections of the A/C suction line together. Tighten the nut to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
