TO VERIFY THAT THIS SERVICE ACTION IS APPLICABLE TO THE 2010 DS RAM TRUCK 1500 PICKUP, USE VIP OR PERFORM A VIN SEARCH IN TECHCONNECT. Fuel Filler Close Out Housing Pops Out Of Sheet Metal
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves removing the fuel filler close out housing and file some material off of the tabs that will not lock into place. If tab(s) are broken it will be necessary to replace the fuel filler close out housing and it still may be necessary to filing some material off of the tab(s) that will not lock into place
NOTE:
Only remove material from tab(s) that will not lock into place.
MODELS:
2009 - 2011 (DS) RAM Truck 1500 Pickup
2010 - 2011 (DJ) RAM Truck 2500 Pickup
2010 - 2011 (D2) RAM Truck 3500 Pickup
NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a single wheel rear axle only built before August 9, 2010 (MDH 0809XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer may notice that the fuel filler close out housing has popped out from the body on one side or the other.
DISCUSSION:
If the Customer experiences the Symptom/Condition perform the repair procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED:
INSPECTION PROCEDURE:
1. Remove the fuel cap.
2. Inspect the fuel filler close out housing (Fig 1).
3. Is the housing dislodge at any tabs?
a. Yes >> continue to Step # 6
b. No >> continue to Step # 4
4. Pull out on the fuel filler close out housing 3 to 4 times with moderate force.
5. Did the fuel filler close out housing dislodge at any tabs?
a. Yes >> continue to Step # 6
b. No >> Return vehicle to Customer or Inventory.
6. Remove the fuel filler close out housing by depressing the remaining tabs and pulling out the housing (Fig 1).
NOTE:
Spraying the rubber with soapy water will aid in removal.
7. Are any of the Tabs broken?
a. Yes >> Replace the fuel filler close out housing. It still may be necessary to filing some material off of the tab(s) on the new housing that will not lock into place.
b. No >> continue to Step # 8
8. Using a small file remove some of the material from the flat on the Tab(s) that would not lock into place (Fig. 2).
NOTE:
Only file enough material from the Tab to allow the fuel filler close out housing to lock into place.
9. Install the fuel filler close out housing.

Reimbursable within the provisions of the warranty.

No additional authorizations will be required for claim submission/payment.
