B1E9A-11
B1E9A-11-FRONT RIGHT HEATER CONTROL CIRCUIT - CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND
For a complete wiring diagram, refer to the Wiring Information.
- When Monitored:
With the engine running.
- Set Condition:
The Heated Seat Module (HSM) detects on the Right Front Seat Heater Control circuit a voltage below 1.0 volt or a current above 10.0 amps for more than two seconds with the output turned on.
Diagnostic Test
1. CHECK IF THE DTC IS ACTIVE
NOTE: Make sure the battery is fully charged and the charging system is operating properly before proceeding.
1. Turn the ignition on.
2. Using a scan tool, record and erase Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
NOTE: It is recommended to record any Environmental Data to help identify the conditions in which the DTC was set.
3. Turn the ignition off.
4. Ignition on, engine running.
5. Turn the Heated Seat on and operate in all modes.
6. With the scan tool, read Heated Seat Module (HSM) DTCs.
Does the scan tool show this DTC as active?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Go To 5
2. CHECK THE (P188) RIGHT FRONT SEAT HEATER CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Disconnect the HSM C2 harness connector.
3. Disconnect the Right Front Seat Cushion Heater C1 harness connector.
4. Disconnect the Right Front Seat Back Heater C1 harness connector.
5. Measure the resistance between ground and the (P188) Right Front Seat Heater Control circuit at the HSM C2 harness connector.
Is the resistance below 10K Ohms?
Yes
- Repair or replace the seat wiring harness for a short to ground on the (P188) Right Front Seat Heater Control circuit.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test .
No
- Go To 3
3. CHECK THE RIGHT FRONT SEAT CUSHION HEATER
1. Measure the resistance of the Right Front Seat Cushion Heater element between the (P188) Right Front Seat Heater Control circuit and the Z909 Ground circuit in the Right Seat Cushion Heater connector.
Is the resistance between 7.1 and 10.6 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 4

- Inspect the Right Front Seat Cushion Heater element pigtail wiring harness for a short to ground and repair as necessary. If no problems are found, replace the Right Front Seat Cushion Heater element. Heater Pad - Removal.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test .
4. CHECK THE RIGHT FRONT SEAT BACK HEATER
1. Measure the resistance of the Right Front Seat Back Heater element between the (P188) Right Front Seat Heater Control circuit and the Z909 Ground circuit in the Right Front Seat Back Heater connector.
Is the resistance between 8.4 and 12.6 Ohms?
Yes
- Check the Right Front Seat Back and Cushion Heater element pigtail wiring harnesses for a short to ground and repair as necessary. If no problems are found, replace the Heated Seat Module (HSM). Heated Seat Module - Removal.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test .
No
- Replace the Right Front Seat Cushion Heater element. Heater Pad - Removal.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test .
5. CHECK THE WIRING AND CONNECTORS
1. The conditions necessary to set the DTC are not present at this time.
2. Using the schematics as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors specific to this circuit. Wiggle the wiring and connectors while checking for shorted and open circuits. Attempt to reproduce the condition by adjusting the seat.
3. Check all related splices and connectors for signs of water intrusion, corrosion, pushed out or bent terminals, and correct pin tension.
4. With the scan tool, check for any Environmental Data to help identify the conditions in which the DTC was set.
5. Check Service Bulletins for any possible causes that may apply.
Were there any problems found?
Yes
- Repair as necessary.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test .
No
- Test complete.
