Heated Glass - Operation
OPERATION
NOTE:
When equipped, the electric backlight (EBL) system is controlled by a momentary switch located on the center dash panel. Premium models with U-Connect will find the EBL defrost switch located within the touch screen Climate selection. When the rear window defogger switch is pressed to ON with the ignition switch in RUN, the switch sends a request signal over the CAN Bus to the Body Control Module (BCM) to energize the internal EBL high side driver. When energized, the EBL high side driver provides battery current to the rear window defogger grid lines and/or the heated side view mirrors, as equipped. The grid lines heat the glass to help clear the rear window and side mirror surfaces of fog or frost.
An amber indicator in the rear window defogger switch will illuminate to indicate when the EBL system is turned on. For those with U-Connect touch, the touch screen indicator will illuminate red when the EBL system is activated.
The EBL system turns off automatically after 10 minutes of initial operation, then after 5 minutes on subsequent activations during the same ignition cycle. On the next ignition cycle, from OFF to RUN, the EBL timer is reset to 10 minutes. The EBL system will also turn off if the ignition switch is turned to any position other than RUN or by manually pressing the rear window defogger switch a second time.
Repair of the rear window defogger grid lines, bus bars, terminals or pigtail wires can be accomplished using the Mopar(R) Rear Window Defogger Repair Kit (Part Number 04549275) or equivalent Service and Repair.
The EBL control system is diagnosed using a scan tool .
A NOTE REGARDING STOP START SYSTEM - The heated seats and heated glass will continue to run during a Stop event, however during the period the vehicle restarts, heated seats will turn off temporarily to prevent draw on voltage. The heated glass will turn off temporarily during restart as well, due to anti-pinch algorithm. The indicators will remain on to the customer during this event.
