ISSUE: White smoke from the exhaust at engine idle after extended highway driving or spark knock at about 65 MPH (104 kmH) while under load may be caused by the strategy of the EEC IV processor. In addition, a no start or a hard start condition after a long (overnight) soak in ambient temperatures between 70 and 95~ F (21 to 35~C) may develop.

ACTION: Install a new EEC IV processor with revised operating strategy. Refer to the following procedure for service details.

1. Perform EEC IV Quick Test. Correct service code(s) as necessary.

2. Remove the existing EEC IV processor.

3. Install a new level EEC IV processor (E9TZ-12A650-AEA).

Obtain an Authorized Modifications Decal and list the date, dealer number, and summary of alterations performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
