LIGHT TRUCK:
1996 ECONOLINE

ISSUE:
The top seat belt anchor-to-headliner point may "squeak" on some vehicles. This may be caused by the seat belt anchor wearing through the headliner fabric and rubbing against the backing material.

ACTION:
Trim the headliner material so that the pivot will not touch the headliner. This should prevent the pivot from squeaking. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Remove the seat belt anchor from the sheet metal at the headliner.

2. Copy the template (do not enlarge or reduce) in this TSB article and carefully cut out the template (Figure 1).

3. Insert a 3/8" bolt directly through the center of the circle.

4. Insert the end of the bolt in the weld nut area and trace around the top of the template with a chalk pencil. This will be your cutting line.

5. Use a utility knife to trim away the headliner material and headliner backing around the chalk line.

6. Reinstall the seat belt anchor and torque to 40±6 N.m (30±4.4 lb-ft).

7. Verify there is no contact between the seat belt anchor and the headliner material and headliner backing.
