Compressor Clutch: Service and Repair

REMOVAL




1. Remove the A/C compressor.




2. Use (A) Compressor Clutch Holding Tool to remove the (B) A/C clutch bolt.

NOTE: Before disassembling the A/C compressor, check the A/C clutch air gap.




3. Remove the A/C clutch and shims from the compressor shaft.




4. Remove the pulley snap ring.




5. Remove the clutch pulley and bearing from the compressor shaft.




6. Remove the A/C clutch field coil.
1 Position Shaft Protector on the nose opening of the compressor.
2 Use (A) Differential Side Bearing Puller to remove the (B) field coil.

CAUTION: Do not use air tools.

7. Clean the A/C clutch field coil mounting surface head.

INSTALLATION




1. Use (A) Field Coil Replacer, (B) Coil Pressing Tool and (C) 2-Jaw Puller to install the (D) A/C clutch field coil.

NOTE: Check that the A/C clutch field coil outer diameter sits flush against the head. Make sure that the field coil electrical connector is correctly positioned.




2. Install the clutch bearing and pulley.




3. Install the pulley snap ring with the bevel side out.
4. Place one nominal thickness shim inside the hub spline opening.




5. Slide the hub onto the compressor shaft.
- Check the A/C clutch air gap.




6. Use (A) Compressor Clutch Molding Tool to install a new (B) A/C clutch bolt.
7. Install the A/C compressor.
