1. Verify the customer concern by operating the vehicle, and applying the brakes under different conditions to duplicate the condition.
Visual Inspection Chart:
2. Inspect to determine if one of the mechanical or electrical concerns shown in the provided table apply.
3. If the inspection reveals an obvious concern(s) that can be readily identified, repair as required.
4. If the concern remains after the inspection, connect the scan tool to the data link connector (DLC) located beneath the instrument panel and select the vehicle to be tested from the scan tool menu. If the scan tool does not communicate with the vehicle:
- check that the program card is properly installed.
- check The connections to the vehicle.
- check the ignition switch position.
5. If the scan tool still does not communicate with the vehicle, refer to the scan tool manual.
6. Note: On vehicles over 10,000 GVW (built after 2/22/99), the yellow light will remain on for certain conditions until the vehicle is driven over 24 km/h (15 mph) for 10 seconds. Driving the vehicle enables a self-check for certain conditions.
Perform the DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST. If the scan tool responds with:
- CKT914, CKT915 or CKT70 = ALL ECUS NO RESPOND EQUIP, refer to Module Communications Network.
- NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for anti-lock brake control module, go to Pinpoint Test L. L: NO COMMUNICATION WITH THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE MODULE
- SYSTEM PASSED, retrieve and record the continuous diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs, and perform self-test diagnostics for the anti-lock brake control module.
7. If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to Anti-Lock Brake Control Module Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index to continue diagnostics.[1][2]Diagnostic Trouble Code Descriptions
8. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, go to Symptom Chart to continue diagnostics.Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
