Vehicle Certification (VC) Label

The upper portion of the Vehicle Certification (VC) label contains the manufacturer's name, the month and year of manufacture, the certification statement and the VIN. It also includes Gross Vehicle Weight Ratings (GVWR). The VC label is located on the left-hand front door jamb.

Paint Code:






The first set of numbers/letters indicate the vehicle primary body color code. The second set of numbers/letters (if applicable), indicate a lower body, two-tone paint code.
^ BZ - Chrome Yellow
^ E4 - Vermilion
^ UA - Ebony
^ PX - Dark Highland Green
^ YZ - Oxford White
^ CX - Dark Shadow Gray
^ TL - Satin Silver
^ L2 - True Blue


Wheelbase Code:






The wheelbase code is:
^ 103 - 103-inch wheelbase


Brake Code:






The brake code field may include the restraint system code (all vehicles receive driver and front passenger air bags and hydraulic brakes).
^ A - Driver and front passenger side impact air bags
^ B - Anti-lock Brake System (ABS)
^ 2 - Driver and front passenger side impact air bags and anti-lock brake system (ABS)


Interior Trim Code:






The interior trim codes are listed as a two part code. The first code listed, indicates the trim code. The second code listed, indicates the interior trim color code. The interior trim codes are:
^ 2 - Low back Zing cloth seats
^ W - Low back Windows cloth seats
^ N - Low back leather seats
^ 5 - Low back Nudo leather seats

The interior trim color codes are:
^ H - Medium Dark Parchment
^ 2 - Medium Dark Graphite


Tape/Paint Stripe Code:






Tape and paint stripe codes do not apply.


Radio Code:






The radio type codes are:
^ 8 - AM/FM stereo with clock and six-disc Compact Disc (CD) changer
^ Z - AM/FM stereo with clock and compact disc (CD) player
^ X - Premium AM/FM stereo with clock, cassette and compact disc (CD) player
^ 6 - AM/FM stereo with clock, cassette and compact disc (CD) player


Axle Code:






^ 96 - two-wheel drive axle
^ 69 - four-wheel drive axle


Transmission Code:






The transmission codes are:
^ 3 - five-speed manual
^ 4 - four-speed automatic


Spring Code:






Front spring base part number is 5310, rear spring base part number is 5560.

NOTE: Powertrain calibration information is limited to a maximum of five characters per line on the Vehicle Certification (VC) Label. Because of this, calibration identification consisting of more than five characters will wrap to the second line on the VC label.

Powertrain calibration information is printed in the lower right corner of the Vehicle Certification (VC) Label. Only the base calibration information is printed. Revision levels will not appear, however, they can be found in On Line Automotive Service Information System (OASIS).

Position 1 - Model year identification is as follows
^ 1 - 2001
^ 2 - 2002

Vehicle Code
Position 2 - The vehicle identification code is as follows.
M1 - Escape

Transmission Code
Position 3 - The transmission identification code is as follows.
^ 1 - Automatic transmission
^ 2 - Manual transmission

Unique Calibration
Position 4 - Unique calibration is explained in the following.

The Emissions/CAFE/CO2 Compliance Department is responsible for assigning calibration numbers. Unique calibration ID's are assigned to cover similar vehicles to differentiate between tires, drive configurations, final drive ratios and other certification-significant factors.

These two characters are chosen by the analyst to provide identifiable information unique to each calibration. For example, using the number 2 to denote a two-valve engine versus using a 4 to denote a four-valve engine, provides an easily identifiable difference.

Fleet Code
Position 5 - Fleet coding is as follows.
^ 0 - Certification (U.S. 4K, final sale in export markets)
^ 1 - HDGE/Dyno
^ 2 - Fast AMA, U.S.
^ 3 - ADP U.S.
^ 4 - Not assigned
^ 5 - Not assigned
^ 6 - Evaporative emissions
^ 7 - MACAA
^ 8 - On-board diagnostics
^ 9 - Not assigned

Certification Region
Position 6 - Certification region. Lead region where multiple regions are included in one calibration.
^ 5 - U.S. fifty states
^ A - U.S. Federal (including altitude, may include Canada or Mexico)
^ B - U.S. California standard (includes U.S. green states)
^ C - Canada
^ D - China
^ E - European Community (Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom)
^ F - Extended European Community (E plus Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Norway, Poland, Romania, Russian Federation, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland, Yugoslavia)
