Removal and Installation

1. With the vehicle in the NEUTRAL position, raise and support the vehicle.






2. Remove the three bolts and the heat shield.






3. Disconnect the electrical connector.






4. Remove the coil wire from the electrical connector.

1. Remove the connector interlock.

2. Remove the coil wire pin.

- Use the proper electrical connector pin remover.






5. Remove the front and rear output shaft speed sensor wire pins from the electrical connector.

- Use an electrical connector pin remover.

Pin Wire Color Circuit Function

1 BN/WH Motor position 2
2 LB 4WD control module to rear speed sensor
3 LG Rear speed sensor, voltage
4 BK/LG 4WD module to front speed sensor
5 OG/WH Motor position 1
6 GY/RD Rear speed sensor, signal return
7 LG Front speed sensor, voltage
8 GY/RD Front speed sensor, signal return
9 WH Motor position 3
10 YE/WH Motor position 6, ground
11 BN/YE 4WD control module to magnetic clutch coil
12 - not used
13 VT/YE Motor position 4
14 OG 4WD control module to transfer case assembly
15 YE 4WD control module to transfer case assembly
16 BN 4WD control module to magnetic clutch coil






6. Remove the four bolts and the transfer case shift motor.






7. NOTE: Make sure the motor mounting surfaces are clean.

Apply a 3-mm (1/8-inch) bead of sealant to the motor mounting surface on the case.

8. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
