1. NOTE: For vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission, make sure the torque converter stud and the flexplate marks made during removal are aligned.
Position the engine in the vehicle.
2. Install the four nuts.
3. Install the eight transmission-to-engine bolts.
Vehicles equipped with automatic transmission
4. Install the transmission cooler line bracket and bolt.
5. Install the four torque converter nuts.
- Install the nuts.
- Install the access plate.
All Vehicles
6. Install the starter motor. 7. Connect the dual converter Y-pipe.
8. Install the LH heated oxygen sensor (HO2S).
9. Connect the engine sensor control wiring to the mass air flow (MAF) sensor.
10. Connect the vacuum hose to the vacuum reservoir.
11. Connect the transmission wiring harness connectors.
12. Connect both heated oxygen sensor electrical connectors.
13. Position and connect the generator wiring harness.
14. Install the powertrain control module ground strap.
15. Install the powertrain control module wiring bracket.
16. Connect the engine control wiring harness to the powertrain control module (PCM).
17. Connect the fuel tubes.
18. Install the ground cable.
19. Install the PCM wiring harness.
20. Position the A/C compressor and A/C compressor mounting bracket as an assembly and install the bolts..
21. Install the stud bolts to the A/C compressor mounting bracket.
22. Position the wiring harness bracket and the fuel tube bracket and install the nuts.
23. Connect the A/C compressor electrical connector.
24. Install the fuel tube bracket.
25. Position the A/C suction discharge tube and install the nut.
26. Connect the A/C tube at the accumulator.
27. Install the suction discharge manifold on the A/C compressor.
28. Connect the engine sensor control wiring to the A/C cut-out switch.
29. Install the radiator.
30. Install the fan shroud.
- Position the fan shroud.
- Install the bolts.
31. Install the accessory drive belt.
32. CAUTION: The fan clutch has left hand threads.
Using the special tool, install the fan clutch and the fan blade.
33. Connect the upper radiator hose and the lower radiator hose to the radiator.
34. Install the air cleaner outlet tube.
35. Install the upper intake manifold.
36. Install the hood.
37. Fill the engine with clean engine oil.
38. Connect the battery ground cable.
39. Fill and bleed the engine cooling system.
40. Charge the A/C system.
41. Inspect the engine and cooling system for leaks.
42. NOTE: The starter must be removed to gain access to all the oil pan bolts.
NOTE: This step is required only if the oil pan was off during engine removal.
After the engine has warmed to operating temperature, retighten the oil pan bolts starting from the rear of the oil pan and work forward.
- Tighten the oil pan bolts to 12 Nm (106 inch lbs.).
