Interior/Restraints - Passenger Air Bag Squeak/Rattle

SQUEAK OR RATTLE FROM THE PASSENGER AIR BAG
FORD:
2004 Ranger
ISSUE
Some 2004 Ranger vehicles may exhibit a squeak or raffle from the passenger air bag module.
ACTION
Install Flock Tape on the bottom of the metal mounting tabs on the passenger air bag module.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Depower the air bag system. Refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering in Section 501-20B of the Workshop Manual.
2. Remove the passenger air bag module per Section 501-20B of the Workshop Manual.
3. Install Rotunda Flock Tape (164-R4903) on both metal mounting tabs. Install the tape so at least 1/2" (13 mm) of the tape is on the bottom of the bracket, and so it folds over the leading edge of the bracket and covers at least 1/4" (7 mm) of the top of the bracket (Figures 1 and 2).
NOTE
FLOCK TAPE IS INCLUDED IN THE ROTUNDA SQUEAK AND RATTLE KIT (164-R4900), OR MAY BE ORDERED SEPARATELY.
4. Reinstall the passenger airbag module per Workshop Manual Section 501-20B.
5. Repower the system. Refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering in Section 501-20B of the Workshop Manual.
