Thermostat: Service and Repair

Removal and Installation





Material

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
2. Remove the air conditioning compressor.

3. NOTE: The thermostat and thermostat housing are serviced as an assembly.

Drain the cooling system.
4. Remove the cooling fan motor and shroud.





5. Remove the hoses to the thermostat housing.
1 Release the spring-style clamps.
2 Twist and remove the coolant hoses from the thermostat housing.





6. Remove the bolts, the thermostat housing and the thermostat as an assembly.

7. NOTE: Lubricate the thermostat housing O-ring with clean engine coolant.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.
8. Fill and bleed the cooling system.
