Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
INSPECTION AND VERIFICATIONNOTE: Verify the service disconnect plug is correctly inserted and locked into the LOCK position.
1. Verify the customer concern.
Visual Inspection Chart:
2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.
3. NOTE: As pinpoint tests and measurements are being carried out, make sure to inspect for any disconnected, loose fitting or incorrectly installed component, module or in-line electrical connectors and pins.
If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
4. NOTE: Make sure the function selector switch is in the OFF position.
If the cause is not visually evident, connect a diagnostic tool to the data link connector (DLC) and select the vehicle to be tested from the diagnostic tool menu. If the diagnostic tool does not communicate with the vehicle:
- check that the program card is correctly installed.
- check the connections to the vehicle.
- check the ignition switch position.
5. If the diagnostic tool still does not communicate with the vehicle, refer to the diagnostic tool operating manual.
6. Carry out the diagnostic tool data link test. If the diagnostic tool responds with:
- CAN or ISO circuits fault; all electronic control units no response, not equipped, refer to Information Bus (Module Communications Network).
- No response/not equipped for powertrain control module (PCM), turn the A/C function selector switch to OFF and carry out the self-test diagnostics for the PCM.
- No response/not equipped for traction battery control module (TBCM), carry out the self-test diagnostics for the TBCM.
- System passed, retrieve and record the continuous diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs, and carry out the self-test diagnostics for the PCM (with the function selector lever in the OFF position) and the TBCM.
7. If any PCM DTCs are related to the concern, go to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index. Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index
8. If any TBCM DTCs are related to the concern, go to the Traction Battery Control Module (TBCM) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index. Traction Battery Control Module (TBCM) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index
9. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, GO to Symptom Chart. Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
For a complete list of PCM DTCs, refer to Computers and Control Systems.
For a complete list of TBCM DTCs, refer to Hybrid Drive Systems.
