Engine - Coolant Temperature Sensor/Switch: Service and Repair

Engine Coolant Temperature Sender Unit - 4.0L

Engine Coolant Temperature Sender Unit - 4.0L:





Removal and Installation
1. Drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer to Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding.
2. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Battery.





3. Loosen the clamp and disconnect the air cleaner outlet tube.





4. Loosen the fitting and disconnect the exhaust manifold-to-exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve tube.
^ To install, tighten to 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.).





5. Remove the ignition coil bracket bolts.
^ To install, tighten to 8 Nm (71 inch lbs.).





6. CAUTION: Use care when lifting the intake manifold to avoid damage to the intake manifold gasket.

Remove the intake manifold bolts and position the intake manifold aside.
^ To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
7. Disconnect the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sender unit electrical connector.





8. Remove the clip and the ECT sender unit.
9. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
