Thermostat Housing: Service and Repair

Removal and Installation

All vehicles

1. NOTE: The thermostat and thermostat housing are serviced as an assembly.

With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
2. Drain the cooling system.
3. Remove the 2 bolts and the accessory drive belt splash shield.
^ To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.).

Early build vehicles
4. Using the pulley bolt, rotate the accessory drive belt tensioner clockwise and remove the accessory drive belt from the A/C compressor.





Late build vehicles
5. Using the hex feature, rotate the accessory drive belt tensioner clockwise and remove the accessory drive belt from the A/C compressor.





All vehicles
6. Remove the 2 nuts and position aside the power steering tube.
^ To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).





7. Remove the cooling fan motor and shroud.
8. Remove the 2 bolts, the stud bolt and position aside the A/C compressor.
^ To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
9. Release the spring-style clamps and disconnect the radiator and heater hoses from the thermostat housing.
10. Remove the 3 bolts, thermostat housing and thermostat as an assembly.
^ To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).

11. NOTE: Lubricate the thermostat housing O-ring with clean engine coolant.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.
12. Fill and bleed the cooling system.
