ISSUE
Some 2007 Focus vehicles built between 10/15/2006 and 2/02/2007 may experience a fuel cap lamp illumination and/or malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0455 or P0457 due to the fuel cap tether being entrapped under the fuel cap during installation.

ACTION
Replace the fuel gas cap with a cap that is less likely to have the tether trapped under the cap when refueling.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Open fuel door.





2. Inspect fuel cap with two piece tether design (Figure 1) for possible entrapment. If tether is entrapped under the fuel cap, proceed to Step 3. If tether is not entrapped, do not continue with this TSB. Perform normal diagnostics.

3. Remove two (2) piece design fuel cap and tether. (Figure 1)





4. Install new one piece design fuel cap (Figure 2) by pushing tether pin in hole until seated.

5. Rotate fuel cap until audible click is heard.

6. Close fuel fill door.
