Axle Assembly

Removal and Installation
1. Remove the axle shafts.
2. Remove the rear stabilizer bar on vehicles equipped with rear stabilizer bars.
1. Remove the rear stabilizer bar link nuts and bolt.
2. Remove the rear stabilizer bar link.
3. Remove the rear stabilizer bar mounting bracket bolts and remove the brackets.
4. Remove the rear stabilizer bar.





3. Remove the driveshaft.
4. Disconnect the rear brake anti-lock sensor electrical connector and the wiring harness clips.





5. Disconnect the vent hose from the axle.





6. Separate the brake lines from the retaining clips on the axle.





7. NOTE: Do not disconnect the brake lines from the brake hose junction block.

Disconnect the brake hose junction block from the rear axle housing.
^ To install, tighten to 18 Nm (13 ft. lbs.)





8. Disconnect the rear brake drum backing plates and wire them out of the way.
^ To install, tighten to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.)





9. Position a suitable jack under the differential housing and strap it securely in place.





10. Remove the 2 lower shock absorber nuts and bolts.
^ To install, tighten to 68 Nm (50 ft. lbs.)





11. Remove the nuts, rear axle U-bolts and the rear spring plates.
^ To install, tighten to 103 Nm (76 ft. lbs.)





12. Lower the rear axle from the vehicle.
13. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
