Test B: The Temperature Gauge Is Inoperative

PINPOINT TEST B: THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE IS INOPERATIVE

Normal Operation
The PCM receives the engine coolant temperature status from the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor through hardwired circuitry. The PCM transmits the engine coolant temperature status to the instrument cluster (IC) over the high speed controller area network (HS-CAN) communication bus. The instrument cluster (IC) monitors the engine coolant temperature data received from the PCM and commands the engine temperature gauge to a corresponding position. The instrument cluster (IC) sets DTC U0100 in continuous memory if the coolant temperature data message is missing from the PCM for more than 5 seconds and the engine coolant temperature gauge fails to operate and moves the temperature gauge to C (cold).

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- PCM
- Instrument cluster (IC)
