Ford 7.5-Inch Ring Gear - Rear Drive Axle/Differential

Differential Case and Ring Gear - Conventional








Disassembly
1. Remove the differential case.
2. Remove and discard the 10 differential ring gear bolts.





3. NOTE: Take care not to damage the bolt hole threads.

Insert a punch in the bolt holes and drive off the ring gear.





4. NOTE: The speed sensor ring cannot be reused once removed. Remove the speed sensor ring only if damaged.

If necessary, remove the speed sensor ring.
5. Using the special tools, remove the 2 differential bearings if necessary.





6. Rotate and remove the differential pinion gears and differential pinion thrust washers.





7. Remove the differential side gears and the differential side gear thrust washers.





Assembly
1. Lubricate the differential side gear thrust washers and the differential side gear journals, and assemble the washers to the gears.





2. Lubricate the differential pinion thrust washers and the differential pinion gears, and assemble the washers to the gears.





3. Position the differential side gears and thrust washers into the differential case.





4. Engage the differential pinion gears with the differential side gears and rotate the pinion gears to align with the differential pinion shaft bore.





5. Insert the differential pinion shaft.
^ Align the hole in the differential pinion shaft with the hole in the differential case.





6. NOTE: If a new pinion shaft lock bolt is unavailable, coat the original bolt threads with Threadlock(R) and sealer prior to installation.

Install a new differential pinion shaft lock bolt and tighten finger-tight.





7. Using the special tool, install the 2 new differential bearings.





8. Press the ring gear on the differential case.





9. Install the 10 new ring gear bolts.
^ Tighten to 105 Nm (77 lb-ft).





10. Install the differential case.
