ISSUE
Some 2010 Edge and MKX vehicles built from 1/25/2010 to 6/28/2010 may exhibit a squeak noise from the driver and/or passenger front seat while braking, accelerating or turning corners with the safety belt buckled. This noise may be due to contact between the inboard safety belt buckle anti-rotation locator tab and the seat track bracket slot. Concern can occur on all front seat types except 4-way manual driver seat.
ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
Vehicles with power adjustable front seats, perform Procedure A - Power Adjustable Seats. Vehicles with manual adjustable front passenger seat, perform Procedure B - Manual Passenger Seat.
Procedure A - Power Adjustable Seats
1. Remove Torx 120 screw from inboard seat cushion valance at inboard seat back pivot area. (Figure 1A)
2. Carefully reposition inboard seat cushion valance to allow access to safety belt buckle nut. (Figure 1)
3. Remove front safety belt buckle(s) (less seat removal). Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 501-20A.
4. Apply Motorcraft(R) PTFE Lubricant to the anti-rotation locator tab seat track bracket slot. (Figure 2Y) Do not apply lubricant to safety belt buckle mounting area. (Figure 2X)
5. Reinstall front safety belt buckle(s) (less seat removal). Refer to WSM, Section 501-10.
6. Move the front safety belt buckle(s) forward and rearward four times to distribute the grease.
Procedure B - Manual Passenger Seat
1. Remove front safety belt buckle. Refer to WSM, Section 501-20A.
2. Apply Motorcraft(R) PTFE Lubricant to the anti-rotation locator tab seat track bracket slot. (Figure 2Y) Do not apply lubricant to safety belt buckle mounting area. (Figure 2X)
3. Reinstall front safety belt buckle. Refer to WSM, Section 501-10.
4. Move the front safety belt buckle forward and rearward four times to distribute the grease.
NOTE
WHEN PASSENGER SAFETY BELT BUCKLE IS SERVICED ON A MANUAL ADJUSTABLE SEAT, THE OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SENSOR (OCS) SYSTEM ZERO SEAT WEIGHT TEST MUST BE PERFORMED. REFER TO WSM, SECTION 501-20B.
