Pinpoint Test I: The Rear Video Mirror Display Is Always On (Vehicles Without Navigation)

Normal Operation

With the gear selector in REVERSE (R) position, a reverse voltage signal is sent to the auto-dimming interior mirror, enabling the system. The video signal from the video camera displays an image on the left portion of the auto-dimming interior mirror display.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Auto-dimming interior mirror



PINPOINT TEST I: THE REAR VIDEO MIRROR DISPLAY IS ALWAYS ON (VEHICLES WITHOUT NAVIGATION)

I1 CHECK THE REVERSING LAMPS OPERATION


- Check the operation of the reversing lamps.
- Do the reversing lamps operate correctly?

Yes
DISCONNECT any aftermarket trailer lighting equipment. GO to I2.

No
REFER to Lighting and Horns.

I2 CHECK THE AUTO-DIMMING INTERIOR MIRROR REVERSE INPUT CIRCUIT


- Disconnect: Auto-Dimming Interior Mirror C9039 .
- Measure the voltage between the auto-dimming interior mirror C9039-2, circuit CET47 (BU), harness side and ground.




- Is any voltage present?

Yes
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
GO to I3.

I3 CHECK FOR CORRECT AUTO-DIMMING INTERIOR MIRROR DISPLAY OPERATION


- Disconnect the auto-dimming interior mirror display connector.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect the auto-dimming interior mirror display connector and make sure it seats correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?

Yes
INSTALL a new auto-dimming interior mirror. REFER to Mirrors. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
