Pinpoint Test AD: The Door Ajar Message Center Warning Indicator Is Never/Always On
Normal Operation
The Instrument Cluster (IC) receives the door ajar status for the LH front, RH front, LH rear and RH rear door ajar switch from the Smart Junction Box (SJB) over the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN) communication bus. When the IC receives a message from the SJB that one or more doors are open or ajar, the IC turns on the door ajar message center warning indicator.
If the door ajar status message is missing for less than 5 seconds, the IC defaults the door ajar message center warning indicator to the last on/off state, based upon the last known good door ajar message received.
If the door ajar status message is missing for greater than 5 seconds, the IC sets DTC U0140 and defaults the door ajar message center warning indicator on.
NOTE: If DTC U0140 is set in the SJB, other symptoms may also be present such as high beam indicator, RH/LH turn indicators, instrument panel backlighting and Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Interior lighting concern
- SJB
- IC
PINPOINT TEST AD: THE DOOR AJAR MESSAGE CENTER WARNING INDICATOR IS NEVER/ALWAYS ON
-------------------------------------------------
AD1 VERIFY THE OPERATION OF THE WRENCH AND ENGINE OVER-TEMPERATURE MESSAGE CENTER WARNING INDICATORS
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: PCM.
- Ignition ON.
- NOTE: If multiple warnings are present, the message center indicators rotate through each of the warnings. Allow the displays to rotate through each display while determining whether the powertrain malfunction (wrench) and over-temperature message center warning indicator is active.
- Observe the message center or integrated display area of the IC with the PCM connected and disconnected.
- Do the powertrain malfunction (wrench) and engine over-temperature warning message center indicators remain off when the PCM is connected and become active with the PCM disconnected?
Yes
GO to AD2.
No
INSTALL a new IC. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) Instrument Cluster (IC). TEST the system for normal operation.
-------------------------------------------------
AD2 CHECK THE INTERIOR LIGHTING OPERATION
- Open and close each door while monitoring the interior lamps.
- Do the interior lamps operate correctly with each door?
Yes
GO to AD3.
No
REFER to Lighting and Horns.
-------------------------------------------------
AD3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IC SELF-TEST
- Check for recorded IC DTCs from the continuous self-test.
- Is DTC U0140 recorded?
Yes
GO to Pinpoint Test AU. Pinpoint Tests AU: DTC U0140
No
GO to AD4.
-------------------------------------------------
AD4 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE SJB SELF-TEST
- Check for recorded SJB DTCs from the self-test.
- Are any DTCs recorded?
Yes
REFER to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Chart in Body Control Systems. Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Chart
No
INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to Body Control Systems. TEST the system for normal operation.
