Removal
Transmission
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Vehicle Jacking and Lifting.
2. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Battery.
3. Remove the 2 screws under the shift lever boot and slide the shift boot back, unseating it from the front tab.
4. Slide the upper shifter boot assembly up the shift handle to access the 2 shift handle bolts.
- Remove the 2 shift handle bolts and lever.
5. Remove the 4 bolts and the lower shift lever.
6. Disconnect the reverse lamp switch electrical connector.
7. If the transmission is being disassembled, remove the drain plug and drain the transmission fluid.
8. Remove the starter. For additional information, refer to Starting System.
9. Remove the driveshaft. For additional information, refer to Drive/Propeller Shafts, Bearings and Joints.
10. Disconnect the wiring harness retainers from the transmission and crossmember and position the harness aside.
11. NOTE: Slide the heat shield back and rotate counterclockwise 45 degrees while pushing inward.
Remove the clutch slave cylinder and position aside.
12. Disconnect the fuel tubes from the fuel tube clip on the transmission case and position aside.
13. Using the High Lift Transmission Jack, support the transmission.
- Securely strap the High Lift Transmission Jack to the transmission.
14. Remove the 2 transmission mount nuts from the crossmember.
15. Loosen the top 2 RH crossmember bracket nuts.
16. Remove the 4 lower RH crossmember nuts.
17. Remove the 3 LH crossmember bolts and remove the crossmember.
18. Remove 2 engine-to-transmission spacer plate bolts.
19. Remove the 7 transmission-to-engine bolts.
20. Remove the transmission by moving the transmission rearward until the input shaft is clear of the clutch, then lower from the vehicle.
