Powertrain/Drivetrain Mount Neutralizing

NOTE: Refer to the appropriate system and procedure for special instructions on loosening and tightening mount fasteners.

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Jacking and Lifting Service and Repair.

2. NOTE: 2.5L shown, other engines similar.

Loosen, but do not remove, the RH mount fasteners.

3. NOTE: Automatic transmission shown, manual transmission similar.

Loosen, but do not remove, the LH mount fasteners.

4. NOTE: Automatic transmission shown, manual transmission similar.

Loosen, but do not remove, the rear powertrain/drivetrain roll restrictor fastener.

5. NOTE: Automatic transmission shown, manual transmission similar.

Loosen, but do not remove, the front powertrain/drivetrain roll restrictor fastener.

6. NOTICE: Only use hand tools when removing or installing the spring nuts or damage may occur to the exhaust Y-pipe flange studs.

NOTE: When loosening the converter-to-exhaust Y-pipe spring nuts, alternately loosen the nuts from side to side.

Remove and discard the 2 exhaust catalytic converter-to-exhaust Y-pipe spring nuts.

7. NOTICE: Do not twist or strain the powertrain/drivetrain mounts or damage to the mounts may occur.

NOTE: Engine and transmission mount fasteners removed for clarity.

NOTE: 2.5L and Automatic transmission shown, other powertrains similar.

Center the engine and transmission mount studs to the center of the slots in the mount brackets.

8. Tighten the engine and transmission mount fasteners.

9. Rock the powertrain/drivetrain assembly forward and rearward to ensure the roll restrictors are not bound.

10. NOTE: Automatic transmission shown, manual transmission similar.

With the powertrain/drivetrain assembly at a rest position that is equally distant from the maximum forward position and the maximum rearward position, tighten the front powertrain/drivetrain roll restrictor fastener.

11. NOTICE: Only use hand tools when removing or installing the spring nuts or damage may occur to the exhaust Y-pipe flange studs.

Install 2 new catalytic converter-to-exhaust Y-pipe spring nuts.

12. NOTE: Automatic transmission shown, manual transmission similar.

Tighten the rear powertrain/drivetrain roll restrictor fastener.

13. Test the system for normal operation.
