Collision Avoidance and Parking Assist Systems: Description and Operation

Parking Aid

The parking aid system consists of the following:

- Four ultrasonic parking aid sensors (located in the rear bumper)
- Four ultrasonic parking aid sensors (located in the front bumper) (Navigator only)
- Parking Aid Module (PAM) (located in the LH C-pillar trim panel)
- Front parking aid speaker (located under the instrument panel steering column cover) (Navigator only)
- Rear parking aid speaker (located in the LH C-pillar trim panel)
- Parking aid disable feature (integral to the Instrument Cluster (IC) message center)

Rear Parking Aid

The rear parking system sounds a warning to alert the driver of stationary objects near the rear bumper when the vehicle is in reverse. The parking aid system calculates the distance to an object around the rear of the vehicle by the use of 4 ultrasonic sensors. The parking aid system assists the driver in detecting certain objects while the vehicle moves in reverse at speeds less than 4.8 km/h (3 mph). The parking aid system may not detect moving objects.

Front Parking Aid - Navigator Only

The front parking aid system sounds a warning to alert the driver of stationary objects near the front bumper when the vehicle is in drive or when the vehicle is in reverse. The parking aid system calculates the distance to an object around the front of the vehicle by the use of 4 ultrasonic sensors. The front sensors are activated if the vehicle speed is greater than 0 km/h (0 mph) and less than 13 km/h (8 mph). The parking aid system may not detect moving objects.

Video (If Equipped)

The rear video camera system consists of the following:

- Rear video camera (located in the license plate housing between the license plate lamp) (Navigator)
- Rear video camera (located in the center of the liftgate mounted to the liftgate license plate lamp housing) (Expedition)
- Auto-dimming interior mirror (without navigation)
- Audio Control Module (ACM) (without navigation)

The video camera is activated when the vehicle is in reverse. The image from the rear video camera is displayed in the LH side of the auto-dimming interior mirror (without navigation) or the ACM (with navigation).
