Engine - Installation

Engine

Installation

1. Lubricate the torque converter pilot hub with multi-purpose grease.

2. Using a suitable floor crane, position the engine assembly into the vehicle and lower the engine assembly into place.

3. NOTE: The upper 2 transmission-to-engine bolts will be installed later.

Install the lower 5 transmission-to-engine bolts.

- Tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).

4. NOTICE: The engine support insulator through bolts and transmission support insulator nuts can not be tightened until the support insulators are supporting the full weight of the engine and transmission assembly, or damage to the vehicle or engine support insulator may occur.

Remove the floor crain.

5. NOTICE: The engine support insulator through bolt must be discarded and a new bolt installed, or damage to the vehicle or engine support insulator may occur.

NOTICE: Only use hand tools when installing the engine support through bolt or damage to the engine support insulator may occur.

Tighten the new RH engine support insulator through bolt.

- Tighten to 350 Nm (258 lb-ft).

6. NOTICE: The engine support insulator through bolt must be discarded and a new bolt installed, or damage to the vehicle or engine support insulator may occur.

NOTICE: Only use hand tools when installing the engine support through bolt or damage to the engine support insulator may occur.

Install a new LH engine support insulator through bolt.

- Tighten to 350 Nm (258 lb-ft).

7. Install 6 new torque converter-to-flexplate nuts.
- Tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).

8. Install the cylinder block opening cover.

9. NOTICE: The transmission support insulator-to-crossmember nuts must be discarded and new nuts installed, or damage to the vehicle or transmission support insulator may occur.

NOTE: The transmission support insulator studs may come out of the insulator while removing the nuts. Install new transmission support insulator studs if the studs come out of the insulator.

Install 2 new transmission support insulator-to-crossmember nuts.

- Tighten to 115 Nm (85 lb-ft).

- If required, install new transmission support insulator stud(s) (W790019) and tighten to 75 Nm (55 lb-ft).

10. Install the starter. For additional information, refer to Starting System - Gasoline Engines Service and Repair.

11. Install the flexplate inspection cover and the 2 bolts.
- Tighten to 34 Nm (25 lb-ft).

12. NOTE: RH shown, LH similar.

Install the 4 exhaust Y-pipe flange nuts.

- Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).

13. Position the oil cooler and install the threaded shaft.
- Tighten to 58 Nm (43 lb-ft).

14. Connect the oil cooler coolant hoses.

15. Install a new engine oil filter.
- Tighten to 16 Nm (142 lb-in).

16. Position the A/C compressor and install the 3 bolts.
- Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).

17. Position the transmission fluid cooler tube support bracket (if equipped) and the starter wiring harness support bracket on the engine front cover stud bolt and install the nut.
- Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).

18. Position the power steering pump and install the 3 bolts.
- Tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft).

19. Install the power steering tube and the bolt.
- Tighten to 25 Nm (17 lb-ft).

20. If equipped, connect the block heater electrical connector.

21. Install the ground strap and bolt on the LH cylinder head.
- Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

22. Install the ground strap and the nut.
- Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

23. Attach the transmission wiring harness retainer to the RH cylinder head stud bolt.

24. Install the upper 2 transmission-to-engine bolts.
- Tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).

25. Position the transmission fluid level indicator tube and install the bolt.
- Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

26. Using new O-ring seals, connect the 2 A/C compressor manifold tube assemblies to the A/C compressor and install the 2 nuts.
- Tighten to 20 Nm (177 lb-in).

27. Connect the A/C compressor electrical connector and attach the wiring harness retainer.

28. Connect the wiring harness retainers to the engine front cover stud bolts.

29. Install the lower radiator hose and degas bottle coolant outlet hose.

30. Connect the heater coolant hose to the heater coolant tube.

31. Position the accessory drive belt onto the accessory drive pulleys.

32. Install the degas bottle. For additional information, refer to Engine Cooling - Gasoline Engines Service and Repair.

33. NOTICE: If the engine is repaired or replaced because of upper engine failure, typically including valve or piston damage, check the intake manifold for metal debris. If metal debris is found, install a new intake manifold. Failure to follow these instructions can result in engine damage.

Install the intake manifold. For additional information, refer to Intake Manifold Removal and Replacement.

34. Fill the crankcase with clean engine oil.
