PAINT DAMAGE/ROAD ABRASION TO DUAL REAR

ISSUE
Some 2011-2012 F-450 Super Duty Crew Cab 4X4 pickup vehicles may exhibit paint damage/road abrasion on the DRW fender(s) caused by road debris. This may be related to inadequate protection provided by the front fender splash shields.
ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
Per the Warranty and Policy Manual, paint damage caused by conditions such as chips, scratches, dents, dings, road salt, stone chips or other acts of nature is not covered under the new vehicle limited warranty; However, excessive paint abrasion on the DRW rear fenders is a unique condition on F-450 Super Duty Crew Cab 4X4 pickup vehicles. As a result, repairs are eligible for bumper-to-bumper Warranty Coverage. Prior approval is not required for this repair.
1. Repair paint on affected rear fender areas.
Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 501-35.
2. Remove and discard front lower fender splash shields.
3. Install new front lower fender splash shields, refer to service kit instructions.
