Removal
1. Release the fuel system pressure. For additional information, refer to Fuel System - General Information - Gasoline and Diesel Service and Repair.
2. Remove the engine cooling module. For additional information, refer to Engine Cooling - Gasoline Engines Cooling Module.
3. Remove the intake manifold. For additional information, refer to Intake Manifold Removal and Replacement.
4. Remove the degas bottle. For additional information, refer to Engine Cooling - Gasoline Engines Service and Repair.
5. Remove the accessory drive belt from the engine.
6. Disconnect the heater coolant hose from the heater coolant tube.
7. Remove the degas bottle coolant outlet hose and the lower radiator hose.
8. Disconnect the wiring harness retainers from the engine front cover stud bolts.
9. Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connector and detach the wiring harness retainer.
10. Remove the 2 nuts and disconnect the 2 A/C compressor manifold tube assemblies from the A/C compressor.
- Discard the O-rings seals.
11. Remove the bolt and the transmission fluid level indicator tube.
12. Remove the 2 bolts and the flexplate inspection cover.
13. Remove the starter. For additional information, refer to Starting System - Gasoline Engines Service and Repair.
14. Remove the cylinder block opening cover.
15. Remove the 6 torque converter-to-flexplate nuts.
- Discard the nuts.
16. Install the Torque Converter Retainer.
17. NOTE: The transmission support insulator studs may come out of the insulator while removing the nuts. Install new transmission support insulator studs (part number W790019) if the studs come out of the insulator.
Loosen the 2 transmission support insulator-to-crossmember nuts.
- The transmission support insulator-to-crossmember nuts will be discarded during engine installation.
18. NOTE: The upper 2 transmission-to-engine bolts will be removed later.
Remove the 5 transmission-to-engine bolts.
19. NOTE: RH shown, LH similar.
Remove the 4 Y-pipe flange nuts nuts.
20. Detach the transmission wiring harness retainer from the RH cylinder stud bolt.
21. Remove the nut and the ground strap from the RH cylinder head stud bolt.
22. Remove the bolt and the ground strap from the LH cylinder head.
23. If equipped, disconnect the block heater electrical connector.
24. Remove the 3 bolts and position the power steering pump aside.
25. Remove the nut, the transmission fluid cooler tube support bracket (if equipped) and the starter wiring harness support bracket from the engine front cover stud bolt.
26. Remove the 3 bolts and the A/C compressor.
27. Remove and discard the engine oil filter.
28. Disconnect the oil cooler coolant hoses.
29. NOTICE: If metal foreign material is present in the oil cooler, mechanical concerns exist. To diagnose mechanical concerns, refer to Engine System - General Information. If the mechanical concern is not diagnosed and repaired, engine failure may occur. Testing and Inspection
Remove the threaded insert and the oil cooler. Inspect the engine oil cooler.
30. Remove the engine oil pan drain plug.
- Drain the oil, then install the drain plug and tighten to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft).
31. NOTICE: The engine support insulator through bolt must be discarded and a new bolt installed, or damage to the vehicle or engine support insulator may occur.
NOTICE: Only use hand tools when removing the engine support insulator through bolt or damage to the engine support insulator may occur.
Remove and discard the LH engine support insulator through bolt.
32. NOTICE: The engine support insulator through bolt must be discarded and a new bolt installed, or damage to the vehicle or engine support insulator may occur.
NOTICE: Only use hand tools when loosening the engine support insulator through bolt or damage to the engine support insulator may occur.
Remove and discard the RH engine support insulator through bolt.
33. Remove the upper 2 transmission-to-engine bolts.
34. Install the Engine Lifting Bracket and support the engine with a suitable floor crane.
35. Support the transmission with a jack.
36. Using a suitable floor crane, remove the engine assembly from the vehicle.
