Installation
Transmission
WARNING: Do not breathe dust or use compressed air to blow dust from storage containers or friction components. Remove dust using government-approved techniques. Friction component dust may be a cancer and lung disease hazard. Exposure to potentially hazardous components may occur if dusts are created during repair of friction components, such as brake pads and clutch discs. Exposure may also cause irritation to skin, eyes and respiratory tract, and may cause allergic reactions and/or may lead to other chronic health effects. If irritation persists, seek medical attention or advice. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury.
All vehicles
1. Using the High Lift Transmission Jack, raise and position the transmission to the engine and clutch.
2. Install the 7 transmission-to-engine bolts.
- Tighten to 63 Nm (46 lb-ft).
Rear Wheel Drive (RWD)
3. Install the transmission support crossmember. For additional information, refer to Full Frame and Body Mounting Service and Repair.
4. NOTE: Align the index marks made during removal.
NOTE: Install new bolts.
Install the 4 new driveshaft-to-transmission flange bolts.
- Tighten to 103 Nm (76 lb-ft).
Four-Wheel Drive (4WD) vehicles
5. Install the transfer case. For additional information, refer to Transfer Case Installation.
All vehicles
6. Remove the transmission jack.
7. Connect the wiring harness retainers to the transmission
- Connect the 2 Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) clips.
- Connect the 2 Catalyst Monitor Sensor (CMS) clips.
- Connect the wiring harness clips.
8. Install the fuel tubes into the fuel tube clip on the transmission case.
9. Connect the reverse lamp switch electrical connector.
10. Install the clutch slave cylinder.
- Push in and rotate the clutch slave cylinder clockwise 45 degrees to the lock position.
- Slide the heat shield over the clutch slave cylinder.
11. Install the 2 engine-to-transmission spacer plate bolts.
- Tighten to 28 Nm (21 lb-ft).
12. Install the starter. For additional information, refer to Starting System - Gasoline Engines Service and Repair.
13. Install the exhaust Y-pipe with dual catalytic converters. For additional information, refer to Exhaust System Exhaust Y-Pipe.
14. NOTE: Refill the transmission with clean, specified lubricant.
If drained, install the drain plug and refill the transmission.
- Tighten to 20 Nm (177 lb-in).
15. NOTE: When installing, a slight wiggle may be necessary to seat the lower gear shift lever between the detents.
NOTE: Apply threadlock to the threads of the bolts.
Install the lower gear shift lever and the 4 bolts.
- Tighten to 11 Nm (97 lb-in).
16. Install the lower gear shift lever boot and 4 screws.
17. NOTE: Apply threadlock to the threads of the bolts.
Slide the upper gear shift lever boot up the upper gear shift lever. Install the upper gear shift lever and the 2 bolts.
- Tighten to 28 Nm (21 lb-ft).
18. Install the upper gear shift lever boot.
1. Slide the upper gear shift lever boot forward to clip the front tabs.
2. Push down the rear of the upper gear shift lever boot to attach the clips.
19. Connect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Battery, Mounting and Cables Battery Disconnect / Connect.
