Pinpoint Test AT: DTC U0151

Normal Operation

- DTC U0151 (Lost Communication With Restraints Control Module (RCM (Restraints Control Module)))- sets in continuous memory DTC if data messages received from the Restraints Control Module (RCM) over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) are missing for greater than 5 seconds.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- RCM (Restraints Control Module)

- Instrument Cluster (IC)

PINPOINT TEST AT : DTC U0151

AT1 VERIFY THE CUSTOMER CONCERN

- Ignition ON.

- Verify that there is an observable symptom present.

Is an observable symptom present?

Yes
GO to AT2.

No
The system is operating normally at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.

AT2 CHECK THE COMMUNICATION NETWORK

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Network Test.

- Carry out the network test.

Does the RCM (Restraints Control Module) pass the network test?

Yes
GO to AT3.

No
REFER to Information Bus.

AT3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IC (Instrument Cluster) SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded IC (Instrument Cluster) DTCs from the self-test.

Is DTC B1317 or DTC B1318 recorded?

Yes
GO to Pinpoint Test AM (B1317) or GO to Pinpoint Test AN (B1318). Pinpoint Test AM: DTC B1317 Pinpoint Test AN: DTC B1318

No
GO to AT4.

AT4 RECHECK THE IC (Instrument Cluster) DTCs

- Clear the DTCs. Repeat the IC (Instrument Cluster) self-test.

Is DTC U0151 still present?

Yes
GO to AT5.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.

AT5 CHECK FOR DTC U0151 SET IN OTHER MODULES

- Clear all DTCs.

- Ignition OFF.

- Ignition ON.

- Wait 10 seconds.

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Self-Test.

- Retrieve the continuous memory DTCs from all modules.

Is DTC U0151 set in the Occupant Classification System Module (OCSM)?

Yes
INSTALL a new RCM (Restraints Control Module). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

No
INSTALL a new IC (Instrument Cluster). REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
