Reading Trouble Codes

Diagnostic trouble codes can be accessed by connecting a TECH 1 scan tool or by manually grounding the Data Link Connector (DLC). Ground terminal ``B'' to terminal ``A'' of the DLC and count the brake lamp flashes. The engine DTC's will be displayed first, using the ``Service Engine Soon'' lamp. After the engine DTC's are displayed, brake DTC's will be displayed through the brake lamp. Count the number of short flashes starting from the long flash, include the long flash in the count. Sometimes the first count will be short. However, subsequent counts will be accurate. If a soft DTC is stored, only the last DTC will be retained and displayed on the TECH 1.
