Governor: Service and Repair

1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Remove transmission extension housing.
3. Remove two speedometer drive gear retaining rings, then speedometer gear from transmission output shaft.

4. Remove governor ring and governor hub from transmission output shaft, Fig. 9.

5. Remove four retaining bolts, then governor assembly and gasket from governor hub, Fig. 10.
6. Reverse procedure to install noting the following:
a. Tighten governor assembly to specifications.
b. Refill with Dexron III automatic transmission fluid to specifications.
c. Tighten extension housing to specifications.
d. Tighten transfer adapter case to specifications.
e. Perform road test, check transmission fluid level and adjust as required.
