Vehicle Stability Assist
DTC 91: F-CAN Communication1. Check for PGM-FI DTCs.
Are any DTCs indicated?
YES - Troubleshoot the PGM-FI DTCs, then recheck.
NO - Go to step 2.
2. Connect the HDS to the DLC.
3. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
4. Check STEERING ANGLE in the VSA DATA LIST with the HDS.
Does STEERING ANGLE show correct value?
YES - Go to step 5.
NO - Go to step 9.
5. Check YAW RATES and LATERAL G SENSOR in the VSA DATA LIST with the HDS.
Are the YAW RATES and LATERAL G SENSOR values correct?
YES - Go to step 6.
NO - Go to step 16.
6. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
7. Turn the ignition switch OFF, then turn it ON (II).
8. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Does the VSA indicator come on, and is DTC 91 indicated?
YES - Check for loose terminals in the VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector. If connections are good, replace the VSA modulator-control unit.
NO - intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.
9. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
10. Disconnect the steering angle sensor 5P connector.
11. Check for continuity between steering angle sensor 5P connector terminals No. 2 and No. 4.
Is there continuity?
YES - Go to step 12.
NO - Repair open in the wire between the steering angle sensor and the VSA modulator-control unit.
12. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
13. Measure voltage between steering angle sensor 5P terminal No. 5 connector and body ground.
Is there battery voltage?
YES - Go to step 14.
NO - Repair open or high resistance in the wire between No. 31 (7.5 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box and the steering angle sensor.
14. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
15. Check for continuity between steering angle sensor 5P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground.
Is there continuity?
YES - Replace the steering angle sensor.
NO - Repair open in the wire between the steering angle sensor and the VSA modulator-control unit.
16. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
17. Disconnect the yaw rate-lateral acceleration sensor 4P connector.
18. Check for continuity between yaw rate-lateral acceleration sensor 4P connector terminals No. 2 and No. 3.
Is there continuity?
YES - Go to step 19.
NO - Repair open in the wire between the yaw rate-lateral acceleration sensor and the VSA modulator-control unit.
19. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
20. Measure voltage between yaw rate-lateral acceleration sensor 4P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground.
Is there battery voltage?
YES - Go to step 21.
NO - Repair open or high resistance in the wire between No. 31 (7.5 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box and the yaw rate-lateral acceleration sensor.
21. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
22. Check for continuity between yaw rate-lateral acceleration sensor 4P connector terminal No. 4 and body ground.
Is there continuity?
YES - Replace the yaw rate-lateral acceleration sensor.
NO - Repair open in the wire between the yaw rate-lateral acceleration sensor and the VSA modulator-control unit.
