DIAGNOSIS

Drive the vehicle on a road that has dips, a large rolling bump, or similar conditions. If the squeak or crunch occurs when the rear suspension goes through a large amount of travel, go to REPAIR PROCEDURE. If the noise is not a squeak or crunch, this service bulletin does not apply; continue with normal troubleshooting to find the cause of the noise.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Raise the vehicle on a lift.

2. Remove the rear wheels.

3. Detach the muffler from the muffler hangers.

4. Hold the joint pin with a hex wrench, then remove the flange nut, and disconnect the stabilizer link from the lower arm.

5. Position a floor jack under the lower arm. Raise the floor jack until the suspension begins to compress.

6. Remove the flange bolt from the bottom of the damper.

7. Remove the flange bolt from the knuckle.

8. Lower the floor jack gradually.

9. Remove the spring and the lower spring seat.

10. Remove the flange bolt, then remove the bump stop, the spring guide, and the spring mounting cushion.

11. Install the new bump stop, the spring guide, and the spring mounting cushion, then tighten the flange bolt.

12. Reinstall the spring and the lower spring seat. Align the spring with the stepped part of the lower spring seat and the lower arm.

13. Position the floor jack under the lower arm. Raise the floor jack until the hole in the lower arm aligns with the hole in the damper. Loosely install the new flange bolt to the bottom of the damper.

14. Loosely install the new flange bolt to the knuckle.

15. Connect the stabilizer link to the lower arms, and install the new flange nut. Hold the joint pin with the hex wrench, and tighten the flange nut.

16. Raise the suspension with the floor jack to load the suspension with the vehicle's weight.

17. Tighten the flange bolts on the damper and the knuckle.

18. Reattach the muffler to the muffler hangers.

19. Clean the mating surfaces of the brake disc/drum and the inside of the wheel, then reinstall the rear wheels.

20. Check the wheel alignment, and adjust it if needed.
