SRS DTC Troubleshooting: 61-2x (x can be 0 thru 9 or A thru F)

DTC 61-2x ("x" can be 0 thru 9 or A thru F):Short in Driver's Seat Belt Buckle Switch

NOTE: Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures, Technician Safety Information General Troubleshooting Information, Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview and Battery Terminal Disconnection and Reconnection. Procedures

1. Clear the DTC memory. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then buckle and unbuckle the driver's seat belt several times.

3. Read the DTC. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

Is DTC 61-2x indicated?
YES - Go to step 4.

NO - Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.


4. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

5. Disconnect the driver's seat wire harness or floor wire harness 3P connector from the driver's seat belt buckle switch 3P connector (A).






6. Buckle the driver's seat belt.
- Measure the resistance between driver's seat belt buckle switch 3P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 3. There should be less than 1.0 Ohms.

- Measure the resistance between driver's seat belt buckle switch 3P connector terminals No. 2 and No. 3. There should be an open circuit or at least 1 MOhms.

Are the resistances as specified?
YES - Go to step 7.

NO - Replace the driver's seat belt buckle assembly, Front Seat Belt Replacement then clear the DTC.






7. Unbuckle the driver's seat belt.
- Measure the resistance between driver's seat belt buckle switch 3P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 2. There should be less than 1.0 Ohms.

- Measure the resistance between driver's seat belt buckle switch 3P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 3. There should be an open circuit or at least 1 MOhms.

Are the resistances as specified?
YES - Go to step 8.

NO - Replace the driver's seat belt buckle assembly, Front Seat Belt Replacement then clear the DTC.






8. Measure the resistance between body ground and driver's seat belt buckle switch 3P connector terminals No. 2 and No. 3, individually. There should an open circuit or at least 1 MOhms.

Is the resistance as specified?
YES - Go to step 9.

NO - Replace the driver's seat belt buckle assembly. Front Seat Belt Replacement






9. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.

10. Disconnect both seat belt tensioner connectors. Technician Safety Information

11. Disconnect SRS unit connector B (28P) from the SRS unit. Technician Safety Information

12. Measure the resistance between body ground and driver's seat wire harness or floor wire harness 3P connector terminal No. 2. There should be an open circuit or at least 1 MOhms.

Is the resistance as specified?
YES - Check the connections at the floor wire harness, connector F (14P), and connector H (14P) at the under-dash fuse/relay box. If the connections are OK, go to step 13.

NO - Short to ground in the driver's seat wire harness, floor wire harness, or the MICU/under-dash fuse/relay box. Replace the faulty harness or part, then clear the DTC.






13. Measure the resistance between body ground and driver's seat wire harness or floor wire harness 3P connector terminal No. 3. There should be an open circuit or at least 1 MOhms.

Is the resistance as specified?
YES - Faulty SRS unit; replace the SRS unit. SRS Unit Replacement

NO - Short to ground in the driver's seat wire harness or floor wire harness; replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
