Tailgate Adjustment
Removal
1. Upper/Lower Taillight Assembly - Both Sides
NOTE: Repeat on the opposite side.
1. Remove the screws, then remove the lower taillight assembly (A).
2. Disconnect the connectors (B).
3. Remove the screw, then remove the upper taillight assembly (A).
4. Disconnect the connector (B), then detach the harness clip (C).
Adjustment
1. Tailgate Adjustment
1. Detach the hooks (A), then remove the striker cap (B) from the rear trim panel (C).
2. Slightly loosen the tailgate hinge bolts (A) and the striker mounting bolts (B).
3. Adjust the tailgate (C) alignment in the following sequence:
* Adjust the tailgate right and left using the elongated holes in the tailgate hinges (D).
* Turn the tailgate edge cushions (E), in or out as necessary, to make sure the tailgate fits flush with the body at the side edges.
* Adjust the fit between the tailgate and the tailgate opening by moving the striker (F), and adjust the striker right or left until it is centered in the tailgate latch (G).
* Tighten each bolt to the specified torque.
* Make sure the tailgate opens properly and locks securely.
4. Apply new seam sealer into the cracks in the sealed area (A) around the tailgate hinge (B), and let the sealer dry.
5. Apply touch-up paint to the hinge mounting bolts and around the hinges, and let the paint dry.
6. Apply multipurpose grease to the pivot portion of the tailgate hinges as indicated by the arrow.
Installation
1. Upper/Lower Taillight Assembly - Both Sides
NOTE: Repeat on the opposite side.
1. Connect the connector (A), then install the harness clip (B).
2. Install the upper taillight assembly (C), then install the screw.
3. Connect the connectors (A), then install the lower taillight assembly (B). Make sure the tab (C) locks into the holder (D) securely.
4. Install the screws.
2. Water Leak Test
Check for water leaks. Run water over the roof and on the sealing area as shown, and note these items:
* Use a 12 mm (0.47 in) diameter hose (A).
* Adjust the rate of water flow as shown.
* Do not use a nozzle.
* Hold the hose about 300 mm (12 in) away from the door.
