Rear Entertainment System Symptom Troubleshooting - No sound/no display with auxiliary video unit inputs
No sound/no display with auxiliary video unit inputs (without navigation)
NOTE:
- Check the vehicle battery condition first Battery Test.
- Check that the auxiliary device is properly connected, and has fresh batteries or power source connected.
- You need to switch the audio unit REAR PWR button on for the rear display, remote controls, and sound to operate.
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
2. Connect an auxiliary video source to the RES auxiliary jack assembly, and check the volume/display operation.
Does the display operate properly and does the audio sound normal?
YES -
Operation is normal at this time.
NO -
Go to step 3.
3. Substitute a known-good auxiliary video unit, and recheck.
Does the auxiliary video unit operate properly?
YES -
Original auxiliary video unit faulty.
NO -
Go to step 4.
4. Do the Self-Diagnostic Function, then select function number 1 for Connect of the rear entertainment system.
Is the RES auxiliary jack assembly connect condition OK?
YES -
Go to step 6.
NO -
Go to step 5.
5. Remove the RES auxiliary jack assembly RES Auxiliary Jack Assembly Replacement. Check that the RES auxiliary jack assembly is properly connected.
Is the RES auxiliary jack assembly connected properly?
YES -
Go to step 6.
NO -
Reconnect the connector, and recheck.
6. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
7. Disconnect audio unit connector F (28P) and the RES auxiliary jack assembly 14P connector.
8. Check for continuity between body ground and audio unit connector F (28P) according to the table.
Is there continuity?
YES -
There is a short in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the RES auxiliary jack assembly. Replace the affected shielded harness.
NO -
Go to step 9.
9. Check for continuity between the terminal of audio unit connector F (28P) according to the table.
Is there continuity between any of the terminals?
YES -
There is a short in the wires between the audio unit and the RES auxiliary jack assembly. Replace the affected shielded harness.
NO -
Go to step 10.
10. Check for continuity between the audio unit connector F (28P) and RES auxiliary jack assembly 14P connector according to the table.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Go to step 11.
NO -
There is an open in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the RES auxiliary jack assembly. Replace the affected shielded harness.
11. Connect an RCA type shorting plug to each audio input (R and L).
NOTE: Do not connect the RCA type shorting plug with the RES auxiliary jack assembly 14P connector connected, or system damage may occur.
12. Check for continuity between RES auxiliary jack assembly 14P connector terminals No. 10 and No. 12.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Go to step 13.
NO -
Replace the RES auxiliary jack assembly RES Auxiliary Jack Assembly Replacement.
13. Remove the RCA type shorting plug(s), and check the same terminals again for continuity.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Replace the RES auxiliary jack assembly RES Auxiliary Jack Assembly Replacement.
NO -
Substitute a known-good rear controller and screen Service and Repair, and recheck. If the symptom/indicated goes away, replace the original rear controller and screen Service and Repair. If the symptom/indication is still present, replace the audio-unit Audio Unit Removal/Installation.
