Exhaust System - Sounds Louder Than Normal

SUBJECT:
Exhaust System Noise

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves listening to the exhaust pipe to muffler connection on both the right and left sides. It will only be necessary to replace the exhaust pipe/catalytic converter assembly and gasket if the exhaust is leaking at the joint.

MODELS:

2011 (WK) Grand Cherokee

NOTE:
This Service Bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a 3.6L engine (Sales Code ERB) built before June 25, 2010 (MDH 06257XX).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Some customers may notice that the exhaust is louder then expected. This condition is caused by the rear joint of the exhaust pipe/catalytic converter assembly being out of specification.

DIAGNOSIS:
If the above Symptom/Condition is present, perform the Repair Procedure.





PARTS REQUIRED:

NOTE:
Very few vehicles are expected to need this repair. Only order parts if the vehicle is experiencing the condition.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

1. Raise vehicle on a hoist.

2. Start engine.

3. Inspect right and left exhaust at the joints between the exhaust pipe and muffler.

NOTE:

4. Can a leak be heard at the joint?

a. No >>> Return vehicle to Customer or inventory.

b. Yes >>> Replace exhaust pipe/catalytic converter assembly and gasket.
