Rack Support Yoke, Spring, Gasket, Shims & Cover

Disassembly
1. Clean exterior of steering gear.
2. Place steering gear in a soft jawed vise with yoke cover up.
3. Remove yoke cover, shims, gasket and yoke spring.
4. Discard gasket.
Assembly
1. Clean cover and cover flange areas.
2. Assemble yoke and spring.
3. Install a new gasket. If yoke to rack spring tension adjustment is needed or new shims are to be installed, refer to ``Support Yoke To Rack.''
4. Install shim pack and cover.
5. Apply a suitable sealant to cover bolt threads, then torque bolts to 15---20 ft. lbs. except 1982---85 Escort, EXP, Lynx and LN7, and 1984---85 Tempo and Topaz. For Escort, EXP, Lynx, LN7, Tempo and Topaz, torque bolts to 5---8 ft. lbs.
