PCM/Pats Init./Pats Ground - Starter Relay; Anti-Scan Feature

PCM/PATS Initialization

PATS Type B: PCM_ID is exchanged between the PCM and the PATS module. (PATS PID PCM ID = STORED and PCM_VFY = YES) This is done at the assembly plant. If parts are replaced in service, initialization must be performed. Follow instructions for replacing either PCM or PATS module.

PATS Type E: See applicable "Replacing PCM" procedure in this Service Bulletin.

Vehicles That Have PATS Ground The Starter Relay Directly

NOTE:
Valid PATS key to run will ground starter relay and allow cranking of vehicle.

PATS Type B Vehicles:

^ 1999 B3000/B4000 (with PATS)

^ 2000 B3000/B4000 (with PATS)

PATS Type E Vehicles:

^ 2001-2002 B2300/B3000/B4000

^ 2001-2002 Tribute

Anti-Scan Feature

If an un-programmed PATS key is used (all system types) or if there is a mismatch of PCM_ID between PCM and PATS (System B only), then a 30 second anti-scan period may be encountered.

PATS Type B or E: Leave ignition in ON for at least 30 seconds to wait for Anti-Scan to time-out, then cycle key. If fault codes are still present, follow pinpoint test in Workshop Manual.
