51. Install the timing belt tensioner and the timing belt.
^ Hand tighten the bolt.
52. Confirm that the timing belt tensioner is installed correctly with the tab positioned in the slot in the inner timing cover.
53. Adjust the timing belt tensioner.
(1) Using a 6mm Allen wrench, rotate the adjuster counterclockwise and align the marks as shown.
(2) Tighten the tensioner pulley bolt.
54. Remove the special tool.
Caution:
^ The camshaft alignment tool is not recommended to hold the camshafts in place when removing or tightening the bolts. Damage to camshaft may result.
Note:
^ Use SST 303-098 to keep each camshaft from rotating.
55. Tighten the camshaft timing sprocket bolts to specifications.
56. Remove the special tool.
57. Install the bolts and the valve cover.
^ Install the valve cover gasket.
58. Position and connect the wiring harness.
59. Connect the ignition wires to the correct spark plugs.
60. Install the timing belt upper cover.
61. Position the wire harness.
62. Install the lower engine mount bracket.
63. Install the water pump pulley.
64. Install the lower timing belt cover.
65. Install the accessory drive belt idler pulley.
Note:
^ Apply silicone gasket and sealant sealer to the crankshaft pulley keyway prior to installing the crankshaft pulley.
66. Install the crankshaft pulley.
67. Install the coolant tube.
^ Install the bolt.
^ Connect the hose.
68. Install a new gasket and the crankcase vent oil separator.
^ Install the bolts.
^ Connect the PCV valve.
69. Install the catalytic converter bracket.
70. Install the crankshaft position sensor and bushing.
71. Install the stud.
72. Install the coolant tube.
^ Install the bolt and nut. Connect the hose.
73. Install the A/C compressor bracket.
74. Install the power steering pump bracket.
75. Install the exhaust manifold and tighten using the sequence shown.
^ Install a new gasket.
76. Install the oil level indicator and tube.
^ Install a new O-ring seal if damaged.
77. Support the engine with a suitable lifting device and remove the engine from the engine stand.
78. Install the rear cover plate and dowels.
Note:
^ Lubricate the crankshaft flange and the crankshaft rear oil seal bore with SAE 5W-20 Motor Oil prior to installing the crankshaft rear seal or damage to the rear seal may occur.
79. Using the special tools, install a new crankshaft rear seal.
Note:
^ Install a new pilot bearing on vehicles equipped with a manual transaxle only if it is damaged.
80. Using the special tools, install the pilot bearing.
81. Install the flywheel.
82. Install the flywheel holding tool.
83. Using the special tool, position the clutch disc onto the flywheel.
84. Position the clutch pressure plate onto the flywheel, install the pressure plate bolts and tighten them using the sequence shown.
85. Remove the special tool.
86. Remove the special tool.
